FROM SCIENCE TO LIFE

FROM SCIENCE TO LIFE
An integral and environmental experience.

The following is a short article written on a school website. It is about enjoying nature, scaping from the noise of the city, but specially about students living and thinking of their planet.

The environmental field trips to the Natural Reserves and the Botanic Garden within the frame of the Science Day is the result of a very well conceived work with the purpose of developing the students’ social, cognitive and personal skills. That is why during this year all the Science Department has been addressed to three didactic proposals:
1. To study the science concepts with academic seriousness and thoroughness, understanding where they come from and how can be observed in specific environmental situations.
2. To socialize the findings and products of the students with the educational community. Knowledge is to share and ask questions, so the activities must leave the classroom in order to be heard and known by everyone, from toddlers to parents.
3. To live science approaching students to the ecosystems of the region but with a clear environmental perspective.
Having mobilized more than 700 children and young people to live this environmental experience is not just a coincidence, is the result of a constructivist teaching that has a clear pedagogical purpose: Educating for respecting life from a rigorous and ethical knowledge for all demonstrations, understanding, from experience, that the way to travel around and explore is only possible from an act of solidarity with the others who are with me and with the environment that welcomes us.
In this moment the students are working on the next step which involves documentaries, publishing results in their blogs and in the school site.
